In life everyone wants things that will bring them the most happiness. Even though everybody in the world is different, have different interest, hobby's, passions, we all have something in life that we desire because we think it will bring us the joy we seek. There are things we can do instantly to be happy, such as going to the movies, going out to eat, playing games or going to a game, having a party, listening to music, going on the Internet, endless are the possibility's of things that could bring us joy. One of my favorite movies growing up was Pirates of the Caribbean. Its a classical pirate movie with hero's, villain's, gold, adventure, and pirate ships. During the movie you have the pirates seeking after the treasure, led by Captain Barbosa. The only catch is once they find what they seek it consumes them. Will seeks to find Elizabeth, and Jack seeks to rid himself of the curse. One of my favorite parts is when the Captain describes the gold they found. The more they had, the more they wanted. The more they wanted, the more they realized they could not consume there desire for more, that it had consumed them. In life we are all after what makes us happy, but sometimes the pursuit consumes us, and if we aren't careful we become what we don't want to be. The pirates were victims of a greedy desire. How do we obtain the things we seek?
Jesus taught to the women at the well,"whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again. But whosoever drinketh of the water I shall give him shall never thirst, but shall be a well springing up to everlasting life."(John 4:13-14) The greatest of all gifts to man from God is eternal life, possible through Jesus Christ. The things of this world may taste good for the moment, but will not give us the kind of joy that will last. We should seek after eternal life because "what we love determines what we seek. What we seek determines what we think and do. What we think and do determines who we are, and who we will become."(Dieter F Uchtdorf) Just think of it, we all have the possibility to be like our savior and live with him again.(3 Nephi 27:27) "We become what we want to be by consistently being what we want to become each day."
We obtain this gift by being obedient to his commandments, of which the greatest is to love him and all of his children.(Matt 22:37-40) We also must follow his gospel, which the purpose of is to cleanse us from our sins and prepare us to meet him again. Because Jesus came to the world, died for us, we all will be brought back into his presence to be judged of our works and desires. By living his gospel, having faith, trusting in him. Applying that faith to change our hearts, stop doing what is wrong and start doing what is right. Following the commandment to be baptized(John 3:5) for the remission of sins, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End,(3 Nephi 27,11, 2 Nephi 31) thus saith the father, you shall have eternal life.
