The power to choose
One of my favorite books growing up was Harry Potter. I love how he chose to be the kind of person that he was, despite the circumstances he was in. At an early age he was faced with severe opposition. Left on his uncles steps at birth, abandoned for most of his childhood because his family did not love him, it would have been easy to just quit. What was it that got him through it all? How is it that in a world where nothing seemed to go right he was able to progress, conquer evil forces and protect those around him? It was his choice to do so. In the first movie one of the best statements is "it is not our ability's that show who we truly are, rather our choices". All the talent in the world, the wisdom, the greatness, would be put to waste without the choice to go and use it. Michael Jordan, the best basketball player of all time, was cut from his college team. Instead of letting it get to him, he chose to practice harder, to do more to prepare himself to be better. When faced with opposition, we really only have two choices. Let it control us, or control its force, stretching us into what we never could have become without it. "For it must needs be there is opposition in all things, if not... righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither good nor bad."(2 Ne. 2:11) Opposition gives us opportunity to grow. Our main purpose in life is to choose to do whats right over evil. To choose to follow God, to not follow Satan. We need both evil and good to know the difference, for learning and strength.
