Out of all things in life, one of the greatest joys is having a true friend, someone by your side to encourage and inspire you. People in many ways are very different, but when it comes down to it, we are all the same. We all need each others love and guidance to feel like we are wanted and we truly belong. These feeling are not foreign, or even new, but were with us from the beginning. Love is at the very center of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is our friend, helps show us the kind of people we should be. I love the lyrics from Bill Withers, saying "lean on me, when you're not strong, and ill be you're friend, ill help you carry on, for it wont be long, till I'm going to need somebody, to lean on." It shows that when we give, we also receive. Its just as important to minister than it is to be ministered to. Growing up one of my favorite movies was Toy Story. I love the song, You've got a friend in me. Friends are what help us get through the ruff times. In the movie, when Buzz and Woody learn to be friends they are able to find true happiness and success. Together we are able to conquer all our trials but when their is anger or hatred nothing can be accomplished. We have to learn to listen to the spirit, "put off the natural man" for "contention is of the devil".(mosiah3:16, 3 Nephi11) When we can do these things,"we draw near to heavenly father, and we become more holy. And as we become more holy, we will overcome disbelief and our souls will be filled with his blessed light. This leads us to greater light, which leads us to the unspeakable ministering of the holy spirit, and the veil between heaven and earth can become thin."(Dieter F Uchtdorf) Love is what he asks of us, it is the way of the disciple, the way of the true friend, the way to become like him.
