Recently I talked with a friend who told me a funny story. Not to long ago, he had been walking down the street, only to come across an old crumpled up lottery ticket. Upon examination, it was clear that only one of the sections had been scratched off. Naturally, the ticket was picked up, the job was finished off.
The RESULT: 10 Dollars
Now, you might say this is not much. However, he took advantage of an opportunity someone had missed because they did not have the faith to try, did not have the right attitude. I believe there are opportunity's around us each day to grow and to learn. Needed is the faith to scratch beneath the surface. To stretch beyond what we think to the Lords thoughts and ideas. The only opportunity's in this life are the ones we choose to take. If we approach life with the right attitude, endless will be our opportunity's. The only opportunity's missed are the ones we throw away by our choices. True, some are placed in different circumstances than others. It may seem unfair at times that the opportunity's for us seem far less than others. But with hard work and a willing mind, nothing is impossible. Earlier this week I came across a poem that illustrates this principal well.
OPPORTUNITY
by: Edward Rowland Sill (1841-1887)
HIS I beheld, or dreamed it in a dream:-- - There spread a cloud of dust along a plain;
- And underneath the cloud, or in it, raged
- A furious battle, and men yelled, and swords
- Shocked upon swords and shields. A prince's banner
- Wavered, then staggered backward, hemmed by foes.
- A craven hung along the battle's edge,
- And thought, "Had I a sword of keener steel--
- That blue blade that the king's son bears, -- but this
- Blunt thing--!" he snapped and flung it from his hand,
- And lowering crept away and left the field.
- Then came the king's son, wounded, sore bestead,
- And weaponless, and saw the broken sword,
- Hilt-buried in the dry and trodden sand,
- And ran and snatched it, and with battle shout
- Lifted afresh he hewed his enemy down,
- And saved a great cause that heroic day.
