My Grandpa the Builder

Out of all the people out of my entire life, I can honestly say that fewer have had such a great impact on me than my Grandpa. Although he is no longer alive, his legacy cannot be forgotten by me or anyone he was close to. It lives on in the hearts of the lives he touched. I can picture the last time I talked with him so well, as he looked at me with a giant warm smile, and simply said "hey kenny." Those two words could tell his life story. He was warm, he was kind, he loved people, and because of this people loved him. He took time out of his life to take me birdwatching, or fishing. Many of his friends would say that he never once forgot about them, and he took the time to travel just to see them. He was someone you can count on. When I think of him, I think of the person I want to become. His cousin stated that he held no biases, that people were equal in his eyes. The last weeks I was around him were very lasting to me. As I took him to the doctor, despite the huge amounts of pain he was going through, he would whistle the Christmas songs on the radio. He would talk to strangers as they passed by to see how they were. Often he would get the doctors to laugh by telling a joke. He was a contractor by trade, a builder. But most important, he was a builder of faith, of people around him, and of himself through his great love and joy for life. Even though it is a sad time for me, its also a time of building. Before I hoped, but now I know that he is in a better place. He continues to build by his lasting legacy. I want to be just like him.
