Finding Youre Groove

I think in life, it is very easy to focus on ourselves. I know for me at least it is easy to think about what I am feeling, the things I am going through, the way life can sometimes seem unfair. It is much harder to look beyond myself, especially in times of trial. However, much of the reason of a trial is to get us to do just that. To realize its not all about us, that there is more to life than just what we can see, that we all rely and depend on each other. One of my favorite movies as a kid was the "Emperors New Groove." The emporor always made me laugh with the way he teased people, how thing always had to be about him. When one of his servants make him mad, he throws a tantrum, exclaming, "you threw off my groove." Then he subsequently throws him out of the palace. Kuzco(the emporor) was on top of the world. He had all that he wanted. Nothing was out of his reach. Planing to build a summer vacation spot he invites the poor people in, and tells them he is going to wipe out there village. Things however take a drastic turn for the worst for our young friend when he is kidnapped, left in the wilderness to find his way back home. The olny way he can do this is depending on the man he just kicked out of his home. The movie ends with him learning to be more humble. Kuzco learns to trust in others, rely on them for help. He also sees things from there perspective and chooses not to be selfish, build vacation spot and wipe out homes, and it never would have happened without going through trials to help him learn to be humble. We have to be willing to learn from eachother, from God. We need to learn to glory in our trial because they are given to us to make us stronger in faith, more humble, teachable, relying on Jesus for the way out. All though we may not like it, we need to rely on him in all things. It can sometimes be hard to admit we cannot do it on our own, but true conversion comes by following our savior with all our heart. Paul writes after suffering many afflictions, "my strength is made perfect in weakness. I glory in my infirmitys, that the power of Christ may rest upon me". Humility is a sign of spiritual strength. Its not a weakness at all. "For when I am weak I am made strong."(2 Cor. 11,12:9-10) "I give men weakness that they may be humble, for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, i will make weak things strong unto them."(Ether 12:27) When we learn to be humble, we put off the natural man, follow the things God wants us to do, recieve his strength, his spirit and a new heart which gives us power to face any trial we come across. We find in ourselves a new groove.

  1. When i used to watch the movie as a little girl in Bolivia i always thought as that the moral of the story was to "learn not to be selfish and care about others as well" but i i never thought about it as what you said Elder....."The movie ends with him learning to be more humble. Kuzco learns to trust in others, rely on them for help. He also sees things from there perspective and chooses not to be selfish.." I believe that if we are placed in a place in which we are not comfortable because it's not what we want for ourselves. We should think about the plan that God has for us. He has a plan for us, and he probably has sent us there to teach, help,or guide other people around us. We should always think about the others and not just ourselves.
