Civil War, Space Shuttles, and The Gospel

Yesterday was a very important day in our nations history. It marked the beginning of the civil war at fort Sumter, 150 years ago. This is a subject that has always interested me, our nations past, history in general. Understanding the past helps us move forward, change the future. The civil war was a bloody battle, costing nearly 620,000 lives at the end of the 4 year war. Although we are not in a civil war today, there are so many different ideas and opinions that are out there on how are country should be run. There are so many different thoughts and plans to fix our nations economy and help us grow strong. We are in a war of opinions and values that are constantly changing. Finding a compass to direct our lives is key in this day and age. Many years ago there was a battle between the Nephites and the Laminties in which many were killed. Afterwards the scriptures read "and thus we see the great call of diligence of men to labor in the vineyards of the Lord. Sorrow came after destruction, while joy was in the gospels light to life. Nations will rise against nations but today is the day to labor in his vineyard by serving others. Christs disciples came to him and offered him meat. He said that my meat is to do my fathers will, to finish his work. The harvest is not in 4 months, or in a few weeks, but today. I learned that we may never know when the end comes, but to take each day as it come, to bring souls to Christ. Only the Gospel will unite Nations. 50 years ago yesterday Yuri Gagarin became the first man to launch a space shuttle in outer space. Despite this huge success, it was said of him that his legacy was a smile that lit up the cold war. We live in a hard time, but there never has been a greater need for love around the world. Today is the day to share a smile, to be a friend in word and deed. To tell others we care, and to show them. The gospel is the good news. It is to love God, to love others. We may be different, but we are all children of god, we are all on the same team, with the same goal to get back to heaven.
