The months of April through June are great for basketball fans, with the NBA playoffs closing the season. I can sill remeber as a kid growing up, sneaking into my dad's room late at night to watch some great games. Those were days never to be forgotten by basketball fans, with the classic Bulls vs. Jazz rivalry. Jhon Stockton, Utahs point guard, was one of my favorite players. It seemed as though when he had the ball things hapened. He was able to drop it off to the mailman , Karl Malone, who is second in total points in NBA history. As a team they were unstoppable. That is, until they met Michael Jordan and crew. Mj had the natural talent of a superstar, winning the title 6 times with a great supporting cast. MJ and Sockton both led there teams, and with help were basketball legends. Each had the natural power to score, to assist, to win but that didnt mean they could do it on there own. They were chosen leaders for there teams, and with help acomplished wonders. Likewise, in Christs team(church) here on earth, the prophet is called to lead the team to victory. "Surely the Lord God will do nothing , but he revealeth his secrets unot the servants, the prophets."(Amos 3:7) God is the coach. He calls his plays to his point guard on earth, the prophet. THE PROPHET IS one who is called of God, given his authority to act in his name, which without God does not set up his church. It was amazing to watch MJ or Stockton bexause it seemed like they were a step ahead of everyone else. Likewise prophets are given a gift from above, "to know of things which are past, things to come, brings hidden things to light."(Mosiah 8:17) There main job is to teach of Christ, help the team recieve the ultimate title of eteranl life, living with healenly father after this life. Each member of the team must rely on eachother to get the job done, to come out on top. The point guard uses his talent to lead and guide the whole team to vitory, not to gain power or recognition. The sg knocks the shots down, while centers and power forwrds battle it out inside the paint, near the hoop. There combined skills produce a victiroy. So it is in CHrists church. That is why he called " some apostles, some prophets, some pastors and some teachers, to edify the body of saints, till we all come in ubity of faith." Gods church is like a basketball team, where each position plays a vital role in securing the victory for the whole. Without a prophet, Gods power is not on the earth, nor his church. Just like you need a coach and a point guard to run the team. I know the heavens are open today, and that Gods chruch is run by his power through a prophet on earth again. Anyone who wants to know if the heavens are opwn, if God has once again called a prophet can read and pray about the Book of Mormon, wich is a testimony that he has. You can learn for yourself by the holy ghost, which teaches us through our thoughts and peace in the heart, if we ask, seek, and knock.
